A serra de Montejunto faz parte integrante do "Maciço Calcário Estremenho" e nele se encontra o ponto mais elevado da região Oeste. As arribas que se situam entre as praias de Santa Cruz e de S. Bernardino são um extraordinário testemunho das profundas transformações geológicas que há 200 milhões de anos originaram a separação da Pangeia dando origem aos actuais continentes. Dessas convulsões resultaram as condições naturais e ambientais propícias para a existência de grandes grupos de dinossauros, o que levou a que esta zona litoral do Oeste contenha hoje em dia um valorosíssimo repositório de vestígios paleontológicos. De facto, nas camadas de terrenos argilosos cinzentos e avermelhados resultaram de depósitos sedimentares de onde equipas de investigadores retiraram numerosos fósseis, de onde se destaca um conjunto de ovos de terópodes, actualmente em exposição no interessante Museu da Lourinhã.

Tradicionalmente apreciada pela excelente qualidade dos seus produtos a gastronomia da região de turismo do Oeste encontra um dos seus mais alto expoentes nos pratos de marisco, peixe e em velhas receitas de pratos camponeses das antigas Quintas e Casa de Lavoura.
